What it adds
The free plugin is deliberately small — 503 response, secret-URL bypass, IP whitelist, done. That covers maintenance windows. PRO covers the other half of the use case, when the placeholder itself has a job to do: pre-launching a product, a podcast, or a rebrand.
Schedule the go-live and go to sleep — wp-cron disables maintenance mode for you at the time you set. The countdown component on the page auto-syncs with that schedule, so you don’t run two clocks. The signup form stores names and emails in your own database and exports to CSV when you’re ready to import them into a real mail tool.
